Frequently asked questions about Démineur
Can you lose on the first tap?
No. The app places the mines when you first tap, never within the square of 3 × 3 cells centered on the cell you tap. That cell therefore has a value of zero and opens along with all its neighbors.
How do you place a flag?
Press and hold a hidden cell once the game has started, or switch the selector in the corner of the screen to flag mode: each tap then places or removes a flag. Tapping a flagged cell does not open it.
What does tapping an already revealed number do?
If the number has as many flags around it as its value, its other hidden neighbors open all at once. If any flag is wrong, a mine opens and the game is lost.
What does the mine counter show?
The number of mines in the grid minus the number of flags placed. The app does not limit flags: if there are too many, the counter goes below zero.
Do you have to flag every mine to win?
No. You win as soon as all squares without mines are open. Flags help you reason and prevent accidental taps.
How many levels does the app offer?
6 levels, from Beginner (9 × 9, 10 mines) to Marathon (80 × 40, 240 mines). Extreme unlocks after 5 wins on Expert, and Marathon after 3 wins on Extreme.
Can every grid be solved without guessing?
No. Mines are placed randomly, without checking whether the grid can be solved logically: some positions have no safe square. In one example on the site, the last 4 squares allow 2 equally possible mine arrangements.
Can you replay the same grid?
No. The app generates a new grid for every game and does not provide a game code. However, a game in progress is saved after every action and resumes when you reopen the app.
